Beautiful Summer Wedding | Shae and Sam | Magnolia Adam’s Photography

It’s always such a joy when you meet the right fit, in terms of a client. There are so many words to describe who I am; history major, sorority girl, wife, stay at home mom, Jesus lover, former high school teacher turned fine art wedding photographer… When I meet with a bride, I want to get on her level and have a heart connection. It allows me to help her articulate her vision and help her bring it to life. When I met Shae, we connected on so many levels but most importantly, she explained she wanted her wedding shot in film. She shared that her family were all artists, even giving her the middle name Matisse. She could eloquently described that film meant the look of her wedding would be timeless. I knew she was going to be a perfect fit.

I actually went out on a limb and brought a vintage camera with me. I was recently reminded of an episode in the Office, where Jim and Pam, an iconic couple, are about to get married. They discuss wanting to save every moment of their wedding week to memory and so they put their hands in front of their face to make a camera symbol and then click. I wanted Shae to take some pictures holding the camera as a symbol that she was going to remember every special moment of the day.

And special it was. The rains had just passed, seats were dried and set out, family started to gather. One of my favorite memories of the night was at the reception, as Shae’s best friend read the text “re cap” of Shae’s first date with Sam while in college. Unbeknownst to Shae, at the time, Sam had mercilessly flirted with Shae one too many times without asking her out. Sam’s roommates decided to lock him out of the house until he got up the courage to ask her out. So finally, early that morning around 2 am, Sam asked Shae out. Her maid of honor, Susan read through line by line, a high light reel, down to Shae’s mom taking a photo of them together as he picked her up and her grandmother singing the Hungarian national anthem. These moments are the ones I love to capture, so many people shared in getting Shae and Sam to this special day and every one celebrated them so well.
